Kanye West Wins His First Gospel Grammy for ‘Jesus Is King’

On March 14, America’s music star Kanye West, won his first gospel Grammy for his album, ‘’Jesus Is King’’. He also got his first honor from the Recording Academy in eight years for this album. This is his 22nd career Grammy and it makes him one of the most decorated Grammy Award winners of all time.

It will be recalled that two years ago, West got a Grammy nomination for best producer (non-classical). However, he has not won any Grammy since he won best rap/sung collaboration for ‘’No Church in the Wild’’ in 2013. And ‘’N—in Paris’’ was scored for best rap song.

Variety reported that during the Grammy pre-telecast ‘’premiere ceremony,’’ West did not join in the online acceptance speeches. Hence, presenter Jhene Aiko accepted on his behalf.
Since his transition to gospel music, he has been celebrated at other award ceremonies. At the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, West won the following awards for this album and its songs: Top Gospel Album, Top Gospel Artist, Top Gospel Song, and Top Christian Album.

While accepting the awards last October, he said in a video coverage, ‘’Thank you all my Christians who have been praying for me. Praying I would serve.”

In addition, at the Dove Awards organized by the Gospel Music Association, West won three awards. He won the traditional gospel album for “Jesus Is Born,” rap/hip-hop album for “Jesus Is King” and rap-hip-hop recorded song for “Follow God.”
