Kirk Franklin teams up with Compassion International to re-release his single, "Lean on Me"

Grammy award winning singer and songwriter, Kirk Franklin, teamed up with Compassion International, a Christian child development organization to re-release his famous single "Lean on Me".

Early 2020, Kirk Franklin travelled to the Dominican Republic to see Compassion's child development work firsthand. Thereafter he said he felt God told him to use his musical talents to inspire and encourage youths around the world.

So later in the year, he began working with youth in Compassion’s child sponsorship program to create a global Compassion Youth Choir. The goal of the choir was to encourage youth to pursue their musical talents and to inspire them to pursue their dreams but it grew into something much bigger.

Through virtual auditions and rehearsals, the Compassion Youth Choir, made up of more than 120 youths, ages 11-19, worked with Kirk to record the his hit single, "Lean on Me", which was originally released in 1998.

Upon hearing the power of the young, talented voices, Kirk’s record label, Sony/RCA, decided to release the song to the world.

According to Kirk, “It was such an honor working with so many young, talented, and gifted kids from across the globe! I’m grateful to the team at Compassion International for giving me the opportunity to serve in this capacity. It’s unbelievable that a song like this still resonates with so many people. I pray this version provides a little hope for the people across the globe.”

The song is now available for purchase and streaming, with proceeds going to help more children living in poverty through Compassion’s ministry around the world.
