On Sunday, May 2, Nigerian Singer, Chidinma Ekile announced on her social media page that she has decided to quit secular music. She said that she is now returning to gospel music which is her root. This announcement coincided with her 30th birthday as she made a post to this effect on Instagram. She said,
“MY NAME IS MINISTER CHIDINMA EKILE. I’M A CRUSADER OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS. I’M A CRUSADER OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.”
Chidinma, as she is popularly called, gained prominence after winning the third edition of the reality show, Project Fame West Africa in 2010. She was 19 years old then and she bolstered her career by releasing a debut single, ‘Jankoliko’ which featured prominent musician Sound Sultan.
Besides, her fan base increased after she signed to the record label of ill Bliss and Clarence Peters, Capital Hill/Goretti. Her song, Kedike, became one of the top tracks in the country and it birthed other songs like ‘Emi Ni Baller’ which won Best Video at the 2014 Headies.
Her works did not go unnoticed. Chidinma won best Best Female West African Act at the 2012 edition of the KORA Awards. Also, she was nominated for Best Female Act at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards.
As she switched to gospel music, the music star also moved to music label - Eezee Concepts – which presently has gospel music sensation Mercy Chinwo as one of its artistes. Chidinma has released her first gospel song on the music label titled ‘Jehova Overdo.’’
“Jehovah Overdo” is a mellow groovy song of praise that testifies to God’s great works in our lives. The song is written & inspired by the Holy spirit and personal life experiences; it is hence sung with befitting passion. “Jehovah Overdo” is produced by the production team at EeZee Conceptz Global led by multiple award winning producer, EeZee Tee.
So far, she has gotten reactions from many Nigerians on social media.
