Pastor Adeboye Marks 40 Years As General Overseer Of RCCG

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye marked his 40th year as the head of the church on Thursday, January 21, 2021.

The founder of RCCG, Pa Josiah Akindayomi, in search of an educated successor, selected Enoch Adejare Adeboye before his death. Adeboye joined the church in 1973 and he became one of the English interpreters for Akindayomi who preached mostly in Yoruba language. He was ordained a pastor in the church in 1975. However, he was made the head of the church in 1981.

RCCG has been described as "one of Africa's most vigorously expansionary religious movements, a homegrown Pentecostal denomination that is crusading to become a global faith" by Andrew Rice in 'The New York Times'.

As described by Adeboye in 1981, RCCG Mission Statement entails:
  1. To make heaven.
  2. To take as many people as possible with them.
  3. To have a member of RCCG in every family in every nation.
He added that getting to heaven means that everyone must adopt holiness as a lifestyle. Likewise, in achieving the other two missions, RCCG will "plant churches within five minutes walking distance in every city and town of developing countries and within five minutes driving distance in every city and town of developed countries". The church is poised to achieve its aim till the gospel gets to every nation of the world.

The church’s international headquarters is situated at the Redemption Camp, Km 37 Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. It has about 200 educational institutions. They include the Redeemers’ Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools; and Redeemers University.

Many persons have sent their wishes to Pastor Adeboye and his wife, Folu. On his Instagram page, his son, Leke shared a series of photos with the hashtag #40YearsOfMercy.
