Gospel music maestro Buchi and his wife celebrate 26th wedding anniversary

Nigerian gospel artist Onyebuchi Atuonwu, popularly known as Buchi, is marking his 26th wedding anniversary with his wife Jane, today. He got married on November 26, 1994. Buchi is a gospel reggae artist. He is a testimony of God's grace and mercy. The graduate of English and Literary studies from the University of Lagos started playing at nightclubs before he had his full blown gospel music career.

Buchi was born in 1963 in Kaduna. He is an alumnus of Methodist College and Federal Government College in Enugu state. After his graduation from the University of Lagos, he took up an appointment with the university at the end of his program to lecture and run a PhD program. More so, Buchi remained a staff member of the Department of English of the university until 1994.

His plans for his gospel music career took a front stage with the release of his first album 'These Days'. His decision to change career from lecturing to gospel music seemed unpalatable for many persons. However, Buchi knew what he wanted and he has been following that path for two decades now.

Buchi said: "At age 24, after a Masters degree in English language and alongside a doctorate degree program in the same discipline, I had become a lecturer in the University of Lagos, a career which I combined strangely with disc-jockeying in a nightclub. I was also actively involved in the leadership of a cult group in the University.

"This and the D.J business ensured that violence and weed were never far from me. Hardly would I walk two blocks without looking back to see who was following. I lived dangerously."

Buchi lived a rough life and it seemed like he was heading for a path of destruction. However, God showed up mightily for him when dedicated his life to Jesus on the December 30, 1992.

His efforts in releasing albums once every three years have yielded results so far. In addition, he has won notable awards over the years. He is a recipient of AMEN Awards for Best in Gospel Category 1999, Faith Awards 2000, POMP Awards 2002, TOMA Awards for Best Artiste, Reggae Artiste and Gospel Album of the Year 2005, and Life Achievers Award 2008. In 2017, he got an award in Dubai, UAE for his significant attainment and persistent productivity.

Buchi is an example of the reward of serving God. In celebration of his 26th marriage anniversary, Buchi took to his Facebook and posted;

"This is really special... The union is ital. The date is crucial. It's November 26. And today we are 26. It's our anniversary again. It's dancing time again."

The marriage of Buchi and his wife Jane, is blessed with four children.
