Divine Oduduru becomes second fastest African, sets new Nigerian record























Divine Oduduru is a five-time African Junior Champion and was the 2014 World Junior Silver Medallist in the 200 metres. He was the gold medalist in both the 100 metres and 200 metres at the 2013 African Youth Athletics Championships

He is now the second fastest man in Africa at 9.86 seconds, one second behind the record of 9.85 seconds set by Fasuba another Nigerian, who ran a slightly faster time of 9.85 seconds 13 years ago in Doha.

Texas-based Divine achieved this feat at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships late Friday night.


Just years ago, Divine Oduduru, a Nigerian sprinter was a used as a meme (He never esperredit.) Watch the first video below after the semifinals of the Boys' 200m at the 2013 World Youth Championships in Donetsk. He finished sixth position in the 200m finals.



Fast forward to 2019 and now based in Texas, he won the 100 meters in 9.86 seconds becoming the second fastest African and also 45 minutes later, he won the 200 meters in 19.73 seconds.

This goes to show that given the right conditions and the right attitude, great things can be achieved.
