Desmond Tutu's daughter, Rev Mpho Tutu, forced to leave the Anglican Church after marrying female partner

Desmond Tutu's daughter, Rev Mpho Tutu, has been forced to leave the Anglican Church after marrying her female Dutch partner.

Tutu Van-Furth married Dutch academic Marceline Furth in a small ceremony in the Netherlands in December and had another ceremony in cape Town which the Nobel laureate attended with his wife.

Tutu Van-Furth was first ordained as a minister in 2004
Rev Mpho said that the church did not recognise her marriage so she could no longer serve in the country. She went to add that the church had asked a bishop (Diocese of Saldanha Bay [Bishop Raphael Hess] ) to revoke her license, which granted her the authority to preside at communion, officiate at weddings, baptisms and funerals.

Although South Africa legalized same sex marriage in 2006, the Anglican church still maintains that marriage is between a man and a woman.
