Chris Okotie, Dangote, Others Mourn Yakowa


President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; Pastor, Household of God, Lagos, Rev. Chris Okotie; and the Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Oluremi Oyo, on Thursday joined in mourning the late Kaduna State Governor Patrick Yakowa.

Yakowa, former National Security Adviser Andrew Azazi and four others died in a helicopter crash in Nembe, Bayelsa State on Saturday.

They were returning from the burial of the father of Mr. Oronto Douglas, a Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to NAN, In his tribute, Dangote described Yakowa as a bridge builder, who strived hard to help humanity.

He said the deceased had great respect for people, irrespective of the ethno-religious difference.

He advised Governor Mukhtar Yero to continue with the work started by his predecessor.

Okotie said “My heart goes out to the families of the deceased. I also pray that God will grant them eternal rest.

“It is particularly sad that the tragic incidents of air crashes have continued, despite repeated assurances from the aviation authorities that our airspace is now safe.”

The cleric called for proper checks to forestall future occurrence.

The National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, Chief Sam Nkire, described Yakowa as “a good man, gone too soon”.

Nkire said the death of the governor was not just a loss to Nigeria but also “a big loss to a small community of men of conscience in the country”.

The PPA boss said Kaduna State would miss the governor’s vast administrative experience.

He added that he was one of the most experienced public servants in the country, having been a local government chairman, permanent secretary, commissioner, minister, Secretary to the State Government and Deputy Governor.

Nkire said since he met Yakowa, when they were both commissioners in their states about 20 years ago, he had remained a lesson in humility and selfless service.
