CAN Condemns Attack on Apostle Suleman

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the assassination attempt on the life of the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Suleman. It will be recalled that on Friday, the preacher was attacked by gunmen in Edo State, while returning from a foreign trip.

In a statement, the President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, requested for a probe on the attack of Suleman. He also said that the suspects should be brought to book.

Okoh said, “While we call for a full-scale investigation into the dastardly act that claimed several innocent lives, let all hands be on deck to uncover the identities of those involved in this heinous crime and bring them to book.

“We urge the Federal Government and the security agencies to see the incident for what it is, a sign of the nation’s wobbling security system, and act quickly to address the situation.

“We consider it as a disturbing development and another attempt by evildoers to cause mayhem not only in Edo State but also in the nation as a whole.”

He also commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives and asked churches and Nigerians to be more vigilant especially with the increasing rate of insecurity in the country.

He added, “We must do whatever it takes to stop those plotting to eliminate innocent citizens anywhere in the country by brutal means, from achieving their ignoble objectives. They must not be allowed to continue their wickedness.

“While CAN appeals to Churches and by extension all Nigerians to be vigilant, and alert security agencies of any suspicious movements in their vicinity, we will continue to pray for lasting peace and security in our country in Jesus’ name.”

On his part, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, also expressed concern over the attack on Suleman. He wrote on Twitter, “The recent attack on the Founder of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Suleman, underscores the level of insecurity in our nation. Ugly acts like these are reported from different parts of the country on a daily basis, and it is saddening.

“Such acts of terrorism, violence and criminality are highly condemnable. The high level of insecurity that has continued to plague our nation has continued to clog up the nation’s wheel of progress.

“I restate my commitment to the fight against insecurity as my first priority in governance when voted into power. I am saddened by the lives lost during the attack; one life lost to insecurity, is one too many. I pray to God to grant the victims eternal rest.

“May God also comfort the bereaved families. I call on the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of such acts and bring them to book.”
