Music icon, preacher, and president of Ebenezer Obey Evangelistic Ministries, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi clocked 80 years on April 3, 2022. His music has touched many lives for decades and the accolades he received were a testament of his impact on the society.

President Muhammadu Buhari was among the numerous individuals who sent messages to the singer, also known as Chief Commander. In a statement signed by Femi Adesina, his media aide, Buhari praised Obey and advised the youths to emulate him.

He added that although Obey hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, his music has been a blessing not only to the entire Southwest but he has garnered tremendous recognition and adulation nationally and internationally.

“He has used his music to champion Government programmes such as: #Change of lane in 1972 (Keep Right), # Change to the Naira (Naira/Kobo), #Operation Feed the Nation, and many others,” Buhari noted.

The President also remarked on the versatility of Obey’s songs which has touched on every human endeavour and has led to him being honored with the prestigious award of Member of the Federal Republic in 2001. Buhari, therefore, wished him longer life, good health, and further service to God and humanity.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, in his birthday wish to Obey, said, “I am delighted to join your family, fans, and friends across the globe in celebrating God’s goodness and mercy as you reach this grand age in good health and with the benefit of having your loved ones around you."

He continued, “For most of us, the fond memory of our formative years and family celebrations is engrained with all familiar tunes of your evergreen music, and beyond the sweet melodies, lay the timeless wisdom of its messages. I believe it is only stating the obvious to call you a legend.”

Pastor Tunde Bakare said, “I am proud to be your disciple because you are special. I have all your records. Your music is spiritual, prayer, philosophical, and timeless. I grant you sound health.”

Obey thanked everyone who came out to celebrate him including Osibajo, his friends, church members, and other persons who would not like to be publicly named.
