YouVersion Bible App Gets over 500M Installs on Devices Worldwide

Bible mobile app, YouVersion, has gotten over 500 million installs since it was launched in 2008. The app was among the 200 free apps launched in the iOS App Store that year. The good news was revealed by the founding pastor of Life Church, Craig Groeschel.

According to Groeschel, this feat is “a testimony to the goodness of God and the power of His word.” He continued, “As of today, the YouVersion Bible app is now on one-half of a billion devices around the world. To celebrate this moment, our verse of the day is Hebrews 4:12, which says, ‘For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.’”

In an interview with The Christian Post on Thursday, the founder of the app, Bobby Gruenewald, said that he was less than average in the number of times he could read the Bible before he created the platform.

To help himself overcome this challenge, he created YouVersion as a website first. This was to help him increase his zeal and that of others to read the Bible regularly. However, the website was not successful. Although he created a lot of awareness on the site, it still did not increase the interest of those who logged into the website.

Initially, the app was launched in two languages: English and Spanish. Presently, there are over 1,750 languages in the app. Also, the app has permitted users to participate in Bible plans on various faith-based topics, read scripture commentaries and devotionals since 2010.

In addition, the app has a function for guided-prayer which gives users the direction and support as they get glued to God’s word. The app launched the ‘’verse of the day’’ in 2020 which permits users to view fresh interactive video content targeted at different Scripture Verse daily.

Gruenewald said the major benefiting part of his involvement with the app is seeing many lives being transformed through the platform.
