Famous American evangelist, Dr. Morris Cerullo has died at the age of 88. The sad news was broadcast on his Facebook page, with the caption - "Today we remember the incredible life of this great man. Your Legacy will live on!"

Dr Cerullo was born on the 2nd of October, 1931. His parents died when he was young and he was raised in various orphanages and converted to Christianity at the age of 14.

He began preaching the gospel at the age of 16, after claiming to have seen a vision from God, in which he witnessed people suffering torments in Hell. He attended and graduated from divinity school in New York state in 1953, and began ministering with the help of his then soon-to-be bride Theresa. In the early 1950s, he was ordained in the Assemblies of God.

Morris Cerullo conducted repeated "Schools of Ministry" in several countries like Mexico, Brazil, The Philippines, Korea, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Indonesia, Netherlands and many others

He hosted Victory Today, a daily television program, and published more than 80 books.

Some notable pastors have taken to social media to pay tributes to the faith General.

My Father, mentor and friend Dr Morris Cerrullo has ascended to heaven.
My heart goes out to the entire Cerrullo family.
Your legacy will forever be remembered.
Rest on God's General.
You will be greatly missed.

Bishop Mike Okonkwo said this on his Twitter page:

My father – Dr. Morris Cerullo!
Like a good soldier of Christ, you fought a good fight, finished your course and kept the faith (2 Tim 4:7).
Our consolation is that you lived an impactful life, raising men across the globe for Jesus.
Adieu Papa Cerullo!
We will miss you dearly
