Today, March 8, is International Women's Day

March 8 is celebrated globally as the International Women's Day. It is a day set aside to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

According to the United Nations, The 2017 theme for International Women’s Day, focuses on “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030”.
In her message for International Women's Day, UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka highlights the importance of starting change in the home in order to "construct a different world of work for women"

Google created a Google Doodle slideshow on its search engine to celebrate thirteen (13) female pioneers. The slideshow features a little girl whose grandmother tells her the best bedtime story ever: the tale of her favourite historical heroine. The little girl then visits 13 remarkable women in her imagination, taking us along on a journey that spans centuries and circles the globe.

Facebook is also marking today with a 24 hour livestream event - #SheMeansBusiness.
