Nigeria finally picked up a medal in the ongoing Rio Olympics. The Dream Team VI got a bronze in football after beating Honduras by 3 - 2.

Nigeria was the first African country to win Gold in this same event in Atlanta 1996.

They also finished runners-up at the 2008 Beijing Olympics to take silver, where current under-23 coach Samson Siasia also coached the 'Dream Team' in China.

The team had a hurried start in the competition when they barely made it to Rio after an issue with their flight.

In a kind gesture, a Japanese billionaire Dr. Katsuya Takasu gave the Nigerian football team $390,000 for their performance at the event.

Dr. Takasu gave head coach of the team Samson Siasia US$ 200,000 while captain of the team Mikel Obi received the sum of US$120,000.
