Rate Of Divorce Among Christian Couples Alarming – Bishop

The presiding Bishop of the Eastern West Africa Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Bishop Michael Frencher, has described as alarming, the rate at which young Christian couples divorce in Nigeria.

Frencher stated this yesterday while speaking at the second anniversary celebration of the City Light Family, a group within the Bishop White African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The bishop, who was represented by his administrative assistant in-charge of Port Harcourt Nigeria Conference, Rev. (Mrs.) Boye Finecountry, said to minimize the rate of divorce among Christian couples, there is the need to inculcate further Christian virtues in the families.

The cleric said, “The only thing that needs to be done to minimise divorce among young Christian couples in Nigeria and elsewhere is to inculcate Christian virtues on families. The issue is that in marriage, you are not looking at the right person; you are trying to become the right person because it is the sacrifice you make towards the family that keeps it going.

“There is no perfect being but your ability to understand and work with the wisdom of God to keep the family and that is the virtue that should be inculcated in the youths of today, so that divorce rate will be minimal. They should take marriage seriously and respect because it is God’s holy institution.”

Earlier in his welcome address, Head of the City Light Family, Mr. Adolphus Nnadi, said the group is geared towards bringing unity among members of the group and the Church at large.

Nnadi said, “We are a group in the local Church with the aim of bring unity among our members and other members of the Church. We are committed to the building and growth of the Church by encouraging one another in the work of God.”
