Should a Christian woman get a boob job?

Dear Sir,
I would like to know if as a Christian, I can do a breast augmentation? I really am not sure and I don't want to be seen as a vain person.

Dear Anonymous,

Now I can not explicitly refer to any passage or verse in the Bible that states whether it is right or wrong to do a breast enlargement or reduction. For sure, this procedure was not available during the biblical times.

My first question would be: What is the objective for this enlargement or augmentation?  There are many reasons a woman might want a boob job.
  • Is it for self image? Do you think it will help with your self image?
  • Is it because you have just had a mastectomy and you need to get a breast replacement?
  • Is it because you want to look sexy?
  • Is it because your husband has asked you to do it or you want to do it for your husband?
Some people might say, this is a routine procedure that many women around the world go through; so why do we have to consult God? "God would certainly want me to like myself"

While you are going through all these questions in your mind, also note the following:
  • You cannot change the aging process of the human body. The lifted body parts will sag again.
  • “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:30).
  • This "Surgery" comes with risks and possible complications
  • What do you say about God if this cosmetic surgery is just to look better? Does it mean God made a mistake?
Whatever your motive is, I would advise you seek God's face in this matter. He cares about you and nothing is too little to be discussed with Him.
